Rapeseed cakes should be cooked

Rapeseed is processed to extract about 30% of its oil, with the remaining portion becoming rapeseed cake. This cake is rich in plant protein, containing roughly 32%, making it a valuable feed source for pigs. However, it also contains a natural toxin called erucic acid, which can be harmful if fed directly to animals. To make it safe, the cake must be broken up and boiled before being given to pigs. The cooking process usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the quantity and preparation method. When feeding, it's recommended to give 200 to 1,000 grams per day, with smaller piglets receiving less and larger pigs getting more. Proper handling ensures that the nutritional benefits are maximized while keeping the pigs healthy and safe from potential poisoning.
