In high-density farming systems, making the most of this time is essential to get fish to market size quickly. To achieve this, several key practices should be carefully managed. First, raising the water level is crucial during this time. As temperatures rise, evaporation increases, causing the water level to drop. Tilapia are small in the early stages, so pond load isn't high yet, but as they grow rapidly in the heat, the pond becomes more crowded. Maintaining a water depth of 2–3 meters helps stabilize the environment and ensures a continuous supply of fresh water. This reduces stress on the fish and supports faster growth. Second, managing water quality is vital. During the seedling stage, tilapia rely on natural food organisms, which require nutrient-rich water. Running aerators for 1–2 hours in the afternoon helps mix the water and ensure even oxygen distribution. This prevents night-time hypoxia and improves overall fish health. Especially during rainy or unpredictable weather, monitoring and adjusting aeration is essential to avoid sudden fish losses. Fourth, disease prevention is crucial. The hot season is not only a time of rapid growth but also a high-risk period for diseases. Regular water treatments with lime and chlorine dioxide help control pathogens. Adding herbal medicine to feed can also boost immunity. Feeding should be done twice daily, with a protein content of 28–30% in the feed. The amount should be adjusted based on fish size and growth rate, ensuring optimal feed utilization without waste. Finally, timely harvesting is important to manage pond density. As water temperature limits growth, some fish should be harvested to reduce overcrowding and allow others to grow faster. Harvesting should take place on sunny days, with feeding stopped and fresh water added before transport. A netting exercise beforehand can make the process smoother and less stressful for the fish.
