One of the first things you might notice in these pictures is how tiny and precious Skylar looked when he was just a newborn! Those chubby cheeks and tiny fingers were absolutely adorable.
Recently, while browsing through some old photo albums, I realized that I hadn’t yet shared the story behind our super simple and budget-friendly nursery wardrobe shelf. Although I did mention it to our friends over at Apartment Therapy, it slipped my mind to write about it here. Surprisingly, even after moving to a new place, this shelf has stood the test of time and remains one of our most useful pieces of furniture.
When Skylar was on the way, we quickly realized there wouldn’t be enough space in the house for him to have his own room. So, we transformed a corner of our master bedroom into what we call the “Nursery Nook.†We repurposed an old dresser for storing all his clothes and gear, and set up a changing table nearby. But I still wanted a dedicated spot to hang some of those adorable outfits that newborns grow out of so fast. That’s when my husband came up with this brilliant idea using IKEA products we already had lying around from another project!
Initially, I was thinking of something more complex like brackets and a curtain rod attached beneath a shelf. However, this solution turned out to be incredibly easy—and it cost less than $20! We started with an IKEA Lack wall shelf ($14.99), then attached a Bygel Rail ($3.99) underneath. After installing it, we placed books and decorative items above, while the bottom section became perfect for hanging clothes. Adding a couple of cute wooden hangers made it look like a stylish addition to the room rather than just functional storage.
Here are a few more shots of our little family of five—because I couldn’t resist sharing these moments. They always remind me of how much joy those early days brought us, even though watching him grow and explore now is equally amazing.
Has anyone else faced similar challenges with limited space or resources? How did you manage to overcome them? I'd love to hear your stories! It's always inspiring to learn from others' creative solutions.
