Feed Starter: Break Through the Palatability Bottleneck!
Many roughages often face a dilemma between usefulness and uselessness. They are either not used at all or used in a way that leads to poor results, which is a real shame. For example, wheat bran, corn cobs, straw, distillers’ grains, cassava residues, sweet potato vines, peanut leaves, and even livestock manure can't always be fed directly due to their low nutritional value or presence of harmful substances and toxins. However, numerous practical experiences have shown that using microbes to process these materials is the most cost-effective and efficient solution.
By crushing or shredding these materials and inoculating them with Gemba Type 2 feed fermentation strains, they can be transformed into biological feeds with an appealing aroma, a mild sour and sweet taste, and long-term stability. When combined with scientific feeding methods, this approach not only improves animals' adaptability to biological feeds but also significantly contributes to grain saving, offering both economic and ecological benefits.
The functional bacteria in lactic acid bacteria, along with their intermediate metabolites and enzymes in the fermented additives of Golden Baby, can break down lignin and fiber in straw, vine plants, and grass powder into bacterial proteins and amino acids. During anaerobic fermentation, beneficial byproducts such as lactic acid, acetic acid, ethanol, vitamins, and other helpful microorganisms are produced. As a result, the crude feed turns into a sweet, sour, soft, and highly palatable feed that pigs love. It's easy to digest and absorb, replacing part of the fine feed and greatly reducing costs.
When raising pigs with coarse-grained fermented feed, it’s important to follow the principle of raw food thick-feeding, feeding less frequently, and adjusting according to local temperature conditions. In hot summer months, the feed should be thick enough to meet the water needs of the pigs. Feeding 4–5 times a day is recommended. In cold winters, the feed should be slightly thicker to avoid dilute food filling the large intestine, which could lead to increased urination and loss of body heat.
Additionally, the amount of fermented feed should be adjusted based on the pigs' intake. Normally, use the natural feeding behavior of pigs to prevent leftover feed from affecting their appetite. If feeding piglets, the fermented feed should be soaked in cold water for several hours, then filtered to remove fine particles. A small amount of fried soybeans can be added to enhance the aroma and improve the flavor, making it more appealing to the young pigs.
Coarse material after sifting can be used to feed older pigs along with a portion of concentrate. Adding sugar-containing ingredients like cooked mink skin, carrots, orange peels, or sugar-rich food scraps to weaned piglets can significantly boost their daily weight gain while improving the taste and overall appeal of the feed.
