First, I decided to make sweet-scented osmanthus rice. It's a traditional dessert that I've always loved, and I wanted to try making it at home. The ingredients I used were two sections of lotus root, half a bowl of glutinous rice, four spoons of brown sugar, and a few red dates. Oh, and I had some sweet-scented osmanthus honey that my friend brought back from Guilin—perfect for adding that authentic flavor.

The process wasn't too complicated, but it did take some time and attention to detail. First, I soaked the glutinous rice in warm water for about an hour. This helps soften the rice and makes it easier to cook later. Then, I washed the lotus root and peeled it carefully. I made sure not to throw away the small end piece—it would come in handy later.

Next, I filled the holes in the lotus root with the soaked rice using chopsticks. I packed it tightly and then covered the opening with the small piece of lotus root. I even used a toothpick to secure it in place so it wouldn’t fall out while cooking. After that, I added the brown sugar, washed red dates, and a handful of goji berries into a pot with water. Once the rice started boiling, I reduced the heat and let it simmer for about 40 minutes.

Once it was done, I let it cool a bit before slicing it into neat pieces. I placed them on a plate and drizzled the osmanthus honey over the top. Because I used homemade osmanthus honey mixed with honey water, the fragrance was absolutely amazing—sweet, floral, and incredibly refreshing. It really gave the dish that special touch that you just can't get from store-bought versions.

It took a bit of time to prepare, especially since the glutinous rice needed to soak for around ten minutes. But honestly, it was worth every minute. The first time I made this dish, I felt really proud of myself. I didn’t have any experience before, and I was worried it might not turn out. But it turned out better than I expected! I even ended up making more for my family, and they loved it.

So, if you're looking to try something new and delicious, I highly recommend giving sweet-scented osmanthus rice a try. Just be patient, and don’t rush the process. The result is definitely worth the effort.
