Pest and disease ecological control of green vegetables

Ecological control refers to the scientific management of environmental factors such as temperature and humidity within greenhouses in protected agriculture. This method aims to effectively prevent and manage pests and diseases by creating an unfavorable environment for their development. When properly implemented, ecological control can achieve excellent disease prevention results without relying heavily on chemical interventions. Many vegetable diseases are caused by fungal infections, with over 80% falling into this category. These fungal diseases typically thrive in moderate temperatures and high humidity, especially when leaves remain wet for extended periods. If the humidity and temperature inside the greenhouse are not managed properly, these conditions can quickly lead to outbreaks. Even with the use of chemical treatments, controlling the damage can be challenging once the disease has taken hold. For example, cucumber downy mildew often occurs at temperatures between 18–22°C, particularly when condensation forms on the leaves. To prevent this, it's essential to maintain proper ventilation, regulate internal temperatures through variable temperature management, and use techniques like small-amount ground irrigation followed by post-irrigation ventilation. These practices help keep the indoor environment dry and less favorable for the development of downy mildew, ultimately reducing the risk of disease and improving crop health.
