Diesel engine valve grinding quality inspection method

In order to ensure the diesel engine maintains optimal performance and sufficient power output, the valve seal plays a crucial role. Over time, due to continuous operation, the valve and valve seat may wear out, leading to air leakage and reduced efficiency. Therefore, it is recommended that the engine be inspected after approximately 1000 operating hours. During this inspection, the condition of the valve and its seating area should be checked carefully. If any signs of wear or air leakage are detected, the valve should be ground promptly to restore proper sealing. To evaluate the quality of the grinding process, several inspection methods can be used: First, the oil immersion test. The valve components are assembled according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Then, a mixture of diesel and kerosene is poured into the valve hole. After allowing it to sit for 3 to 5 minutes, the contact surface between the valve and the seat is examined. If no leakage is observed, the seal is considered effective, and the grinding is deemed satisfactory. Second, the pencil marking test. A series of evenly spaced pencil lines are drawn across the conical surface of the valve head. The valve is then reinserted and gently tapped with a soft hammer. After removing the valve, the pencil marks are inspected. If the lines are broken or interrupted along the contact area, it indicates that the grinding has been successful and the seal is adequate. Third, the ink test. A thin layer of ink is applied to the cone of the valve head. The valve is then placed on the valve seat and rotated by 1/4 turn. If the ink is evenly transferred onto the seat and forms a clean, continuous band, it confirms that the sealing performance meets the required standards. These testing methods help ensure that the valves function properly, maintaining engine efficiency and preventing unnecessary wear. Regular maintenance and accurate inspection are essential for extending the life of the diesel engine and ensuring reliable performance over time.
