Diesel engine valve grinding quality inspection method

In order to ensure the diesel engine operates efficiently and delivers sufficient power, the valve seal plays a crucial role. Over time, wear and tear can affect the sealing performance, which may lead to air leakage and reduced engine efficiency. Therefore, it's recommended that the engine be inspected after approximately 1000 hours of operation. This includes checking the valve and valve seat for signs of wear. If air leakage is detected due to wear, the valves should be ground promptly to restore proper sealing. There are several methods used to assess the quality of the grinding on diesel engine valves and valve seats: First, the oil immersion test. The valve components are assembled according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Then, diesel fuel or kerosene is poured into the valve hole. After waiting for 3 to 5 minutes, the joint between the valve and the valve seat is inspected. If no leakage occurs, it indicates that the sealing performance is good, and the grinding quality meets the required standards. Second, the pencil marking method. A series of evenly spaced pencil lines are drawn across the conical surface of the valve head. The valve is then reinserted and gently tapped with a soft hammer. After removing the valve, the pencil marks are examined. If the lines are broken or interrupted along the contact area, it means the grinding was done correctly and the seal is effective. Third, the ink test. A thin layer of ink is applied to the conical surface of the valve head. The valve is then placed onto the valve seat and rotated by 1/4 of a turn. If the ink is evenly transferred to the entire contact area of the valve seat without any gaps or missing sections, it confirms that the sealing is intact and the grinding quality is satisfactory. These tests are essential for maintaining the performance and longevity of the diesel engine. Regular inspection and maintenance not only improve engine efficiency but also help prevent costly repairs in the long run. It's important to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and use the correct tools and techniques when performing these checks.
