Apple's new patent: wearable devices measure ECG data

Release date: 2016-08-15

The US Patent and Trademark Office today announced a new patent filed by Apple. The patent shows that Apple has invented a wearable device that measures ECG signals through a series of built-in electrodes. Typically, ECG measurements rely on multiple electrodes to read data, and different electrode locations can produce different results. To solve this problem, Apple's new patent details how the device reads data from different parts of the body and compares them to get the correct results.

In addition, the patent describes that the wearer manually reads the data through the finger and then compares the data with the already stored data to calculate an accurate measurement. Earlier this week, it was reported that Apple is developing at least one new health tracking product that may be unveiled with the 2017 new iPhone. The product is said to collect health-related data such as heart rate, pulse and blood sugar.

In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized that health is the next frontier for Apple's development.
